This coming Saturday’s boxing tournament, which was scheduled to take place at the Fordaville Hall in Estcourt, KwaZulu-Natal, has been postponed.

The tournament was postponed due to non-compliance on the side of the promoter Elphas Hlulukwenza Dladla of Hlula Dladla Boxing Promotions (HDBP).

In a letter sanctioning Boxing South Africa (BSA) committee chairperson Sakhiwe Sodo sent to Dladla on Tuesday, 7 November, he informed the promoter that he had failed to meet the requirements of hosting a tournament. Sodo quoted regulation 11, subsection 1 as Dladla didn’t submit his application 30 days before the date of the tournament.

Having applied only eight days before the tournament date, Dladla was advised by Sodo to reschedule the show for a later date.

Dladla wrote in a statement on Wednesday that a combination of factors led to the postponement of the tournament. He added that all the boxers he contracted for the tournament would get 10 percent of their agreed purses.

This tournament was going to be headlined by a World Boxing Federation (WBF) Intercontinental featherweight title fight between Sange Ngoza and Lindelani Sibisi.

Ink Sport tried to get a further comment from Dladla, but failed after he didn’t pick up his cellphone.

Meanwhile, this is the second tournament that was postponed in KwaZulu-Natal in a space of two weeks.

The first tournament, which was going to be promoted by Nhlakanipho Gumede’s Uhuru Boxing Promotion, got postponed in Mooiriver on the day of the weigh-in two weeks ago.
