It was joy all round as female boxers who took part in the last two legs of the Rise of Women In Boxing tournaments finally received their purses on Friday.

It was quite a relief for the boxers as they were beginning to think that they were going to have yet another black weekend after fighting in Emalahleni and Gqeberha last month.

“I can confirm that boxers have received their purses. They were paid today (Friday),” said a boxers manager, who asked not to be named.

On Thursday, acting Boxing South Africa (BSA) Erick Nsikayezwe Sithole asked boxers to be patient and not panic after they were not paid their purses following the Infinity International Boxing and Zantsi’s Showtime Productions tournaments in Emalahleni and Gqeberha respectively.

Another manager, who asked not to be named said: “We are happy that the boxers have finally been paid their purses. It was a long wait.”

Meanwhile, Monica Goci of Ola GMM Boxing Promotions is busy with preparations for the seventh leg of the Rise of Women In Boxing series.
