Bafana Bafana coach Hugo Broos has congratulated Mamelodi Sundowns after the Brazilians won the inaugural African Football League (AFL) following a 3-2 aggregate win over top Moroccan side Wydad Athletic Club.
After they were defeated 2-1 in the first leg away in Morocco, the Tshwane giants beat Wydad 2-0 in the second leg with goals from Peter Shalulile and Aubrey Modiba at Loftus Versfeld in Pretoria on Sunday afternoon.
“I have to congratulate the players of Sundowns for the fantastic performance. Certainly, when you see what a programme they had had in the past six weeks, playing every Tuesday, travelling all over Africa,” Broos said.
That was a second continental title the defending DStv Premiership winners bagged, having won the 2016 CAF Champions League trophy.
