Bafana Bafana coach Hugo Broos goes into Saturday’s 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifier against Benin with confidence after what he saw when his boys were preparing for the match.
Broos’ boys open their qualifying campaign against Benin at the Moses Mabhida Stadium in Durban at 15h00.
“When the draw was done I said this was not the worst group. It was the tricky group. You see the results of the past days shows I was right. The draw of Nigeria was a surprise. Therefore, again, winning at home is very important. When you don’t win at home, you have to catch those points away. We know that it is very difficult in Africa,” Broos remarked.
The Belgian septuagenarian has dismissed the notion that rankings offer the one team that’s ranked higher a big chance to win a match.
“People are always talking about rankings, you know every game is difficult. We know it’s gonna be a tough game. I’m confident because I see what this team did in the past. I see also what happens this week at training. It will be very important that we start the game with a good mindset,” he said.
After Saturday’s match against Benin, Bafana will travel to Rwanda where they have a date on Tuesday next week.
