Lusanda ‘Mexican’ Komanisi has no regrets whatsoever as he announced his retirement from the fistic sport after 16 years as a professional boxer.
The 34-year-old Komanisi decided to call it a day after he was stopped by Kaine Fourie in the fourth round at the Emperor’s Palace in Kempton Park on Saturday.
“I’m now done as a professional boxer. Saturday’s fight against Fourie was my last. I’m planning to become a professional boxing trainer. I will also venture into business outside the ring,” Komanisi said.
On the Fourie fight, Mdantsane-born Komanisi said: “I don’t regret taking the fight. I have to give credit to the newcomer. These boys are strong.”
Having fought against different opponents in different weight divisions, Komanisi chalked up 27 wins with 22 stoppages and eight defeats. He won the South African featherweight and lightweight titles on top of the International Boxing Organisation (IBO) featherweight crown.
“It’s an honour for me to have been in the ring until now. I was doing well for someone my age. I turned 34 in October and I achieved a lot as a boxer,” Komanisi said.
