Namibian Fillipus ‘Energy’ Nghitumbwa claimed the vacant World Boxing Organisation (WBO) Africa junior-featherweight title after he stopped Thato Bonokoane from South Africa in the first round on Saturday evening.
Nghitumbwa defeated Bonokoane in the main bout of the Together As One Part 11 tournament, which was held at the Windhoek Country Club Resort in Namibia.
The 28-year-old Nghitumbwa has now improved his record to 13 victories and two defeats while Bonokoane dropped to 14 wins, six losses and three draws.
Bonokoane is the second South African boxer to lose to Nghitumbwa by a stoppage in just over a year. Nghitumbwa stopped Sabelo Ngebiyana in the 11th round in October last year.
