Instability in South African boxing brought by a certain section of promoters with a specific agenda continues to be a problem for the fistic sport.
This was evident on Thursday when Minister of Sport, Zizi Kodwa, revealed that the National Professional Boxing Promoters Association (NPBPA) had interdicted the new board of Boxing South Africa (BSA).
Speaking on Morning Live, Kodwa said: “The decision of the court is that the new board will not resume, therefore interdicted.”
Kodwa added that the good thing is that director of operations Mandla Ntlanganiso, who was suspended for more than four months without being charged, is back in office as acting BSA chief executive officer.
“I’m very proud that they have taken that decision,” Kodwa said referring to Ntlanganiso’s return.
“I’m sure that there are men and women who carry this responsibility, who are proud and passionate about boxing in this country.”
The seven-member board that has been interdicted includes its chairperson Sifiso Shongwe, Luxolo September, Sakhiwe Sodo, Romy Titus, Princess Mangoma, Nande Mheshe and Dr Mary-Gene Manthata-Setati.
