A South African flyweight title will, for the first time in five years, be contested without Jackson ‘M3’ Chauke being one of the boxers inside the ring.
This was the bold prediction from SA champion Chauke as he’s sweating it out at the gym, preparing for next month’s world title contest against Afghanistan-born Briton Quaise Khademi.
The 38-year-old Chauke is going to square up against Khademi in an International Boxing Organisation (IBO) flyweight title fight at the York Hall in London on Saturday, 27 January 2024.
Chauke from Tembisa in Ekurhuleni won the SA flyweight after he stopped Thabang Ramagole in the ninth round at the Orient Theatre in April 2019. And he has since defended it a record five times.
“I’m good and very happy to get this wonderful opportunity of fighting for a world title. I have been looking forward to having this opportunity for a very long time. I’m blessed. I have known about this fight since November,” Chauke said.
The veteran boxer said on the SA flyweight title: “Other South African boxers will only fight for the SA flyweight title once I have won the world title. I will definitely vacate the SA title.”
Chauke has won 23 times (11 knockouts), lost twice and drawn twice while the 29-year-old Khademi, who is now based in London, United Kingdom, has a professional record of 10 wins (four knockouts), one loss and two draws.
