National champion Zolisa Batyi has made it clear that he won’t chicken out should Yamkela Phaliso finally decide to challenge him for his South African featherweight title.
Batyi from Nxarhuni said this after he learnt that Phaliso, who is rated number one in South Africa, was planning to challenge him this year.
“I hear that Phaliso wants to challenge me and he says he will take my title. That’s good because I also want to fight against him,” Batyi said.
After stopping Jeff Magagane in the second round to win the SA title at the Ngoako Ramatlhodi Sports Complex in Seshego, Polokwane, in December 2022, Batyi waited eight months before he defended his crown.
He drew with Capetonian Abdul-Aziz Kunert at the Bellville campus of the Cape Peninsula University of the Technology (CPUT).
“I have been training all along and Phaliso will find me ready by the time he decides to to challenge me. Let him come, I wanna show him something,” Batyi said.
