After making an about turn regarding being promoted by Golden Gloves and renewed his ‘vows’ with Happy Tewo’s Tewo Promotions, Asemahle ‘The Predator’ Wellem is now scheduled to fight against Pavel Silyagin from Russia.
The reigning South African super-middleweight champion, who signed a two-year contract with Tewo Promotions on Monday, is going to clash against the unbeaten Russian on Monday, 19 February.
“I have signed a two-year contract with Tewo Promotions. Initially, we signed a two-year contract in 2021 and it expired in September last year. Already, Tewo has set up a fight against a Russian boxer next month,” Wellem confirmed.
Silyagin from Novosibirsk in Russia is a formidable opponent, who stopped six of his 13 victims and also has one draw. His most recent fight was a draw against his compatriot Evgeny Shvedenko in September last year.
The 30-year-old Silyagin is the same boxer who defeated Malawian Isaac Chilemba in a World Boxing Council (WBC) Silver super-middleweight title contest in Moscow, Russia, in November 2021.
Meanwhile, Chintsa-born Wellem revealed that he will remain with former SA bantamweight champion Phumzile Matyhila as his trainer after it was initially said that he was joining the Brian Mitchell Boxing Academy in Edenvale, Ekurhuleni.
Wellem, who has won all his seven fights with three of those wins being knockouts, last fought when he won the World Boxing Foundation (WBF) Intercontinental title after he defeated Tanzanian Twaha Kassimu Rubaha in July last year.
