As expected, the National Professional Boxing Promoters Association (NPBPA) has switched focus a bit and is gunning for acting Boxing South Africa (BSA) chief executive officer Mandla Ntlanganiso.
In a letter dated 11 January 2024, which was sent to Ntlanganiso by Mafani and Company Incorporated, the NPBPA demands that he must vacate the position of acting BSA CEO as the promoters’ organisation view his appointment as both irregular and unlawful.
The NPBPA, which interdicted the new BSA board last month, demands that Ntlanganiso be gone from the boxing regulatory body as early as Friday, 12 January 2024.
“We are instructed by our client that you have carried yourself as and/or purported to be the acting chief executive officer of Boxing South Africa,” the letter reads.
“We are instructed by our client on or about August 2023 and whilst you were employed as the director of operations for BSA, you were placed on precautionary suspension by Boxing SA.”
Mafani and Company Incorporated’s letter to Ntlanganiso also spoke about a statement, which was written by Shadrack Azwitamisi Nthangeni, who was a member of the previous BSA board.
“In a statement dated 28 December 2023 the outgone board whose tenure came to an end on the 11th of December 2023 confirmed that at the time of the end of their office you were still on precautionary suspension due to serious allegations against you,” the lawyers’ letter further said.
Meanwhile, Nthangeni’s letter, however, failed to specify the serious allegations that Ntlanganiso was allegedly facing when the previous board’s term ended last month.
Interestingly, Nthangeni’s statement conveniently ommitted the fact that they violated the Labour Relations Act by failing to charge Ntlanganiso after he was suspended for more than 90 days.
