Hosts Ivory Coast had a positive start as they beat Guinea Bissau 2-0 in a 2023 Africa Cup of Nations Group A opening match at the Alassane Ouattara Stadium in Abidjan.

The Elephants raced to an early lead after Seko Fofana’s wonderful strike went past Guinea-Bissau goalkeeper Ouparine Djoco in the fourth minute. Fofana lost defender Marcelo Djalo and forward Mauro Rodrigues before unleashing the strike to give the Ivorians the lead.

The Ivorians doubled the lead through German-born Jean-Philippe Krasso two minutes before the hour mark.
