In its effort to make sure that acting Boxing South Africa (BSA) chief executive officer Mandla Ntlanganiso is removed from office, the National Professional Boxing Promoters Association (NPBPA) has taken its fight to Minister of Finance Enoch Godongwana’s office.

In a letter sent to Godongwana from Mafani and Company Incorporated, the NPBPA demands to know whether the Minister was consulted before Ntlanganiso was elevated to the position of acting BSA CEO.

Ntlanganiso was appointed to the position by the interdicted BSA board led by its chairperson Sifiso Shongwe, Luxolo September, Sakhiwe Sodo, Romy Titus, Princess Mangoma, Nande Mheshe and Dr Mary-Gene Manthata-Setati.

The NPBPA argued that Ntlanganiso’s appointment can only be done with the consultation of both the Minister of Sport, Arts and Culture Zizi Kodwa as well as the Minister of Finance.

The promoters also demanded to know if Godongwana was consulted in the event that Ntlanganiso was appointed by someone else other than the interdicted BSA board.

An interview Kodwa did with Morning Live last month as well as a story, which was published by Ink Sport on Thursday, 28 December 2023, are cited in the NPBPA papers.

Meanwhile, the NPBPA also wrote to Kodwa enquiring about whether the interdicted board consulted him before elevating Ntlanganiso to his current position.

Mafani and Company Incorporated’s letter to Kodwa also spoke about a statement, which was written by Shadrack Nthangeni, who was a member of the previous BSA board.

In a statement dated 28 December 2023, the outgone board whose tenure came to an end on the 11th of December 2023 said that at the time of the end of their office Ntlanganiso was still on precautionary suspension due to ‘serious’ allegations against him.

Meanwhile, Nthangeni’s letter, however, failed to specify the ‘serious’ allegations that Ntlanganiso was allegedly facing when the previous board’s term ended last month.
