Philippi-based boxer Lunga ‘Pressure Cooker’ Sitemela’s days as a World Boxing Federation (WBF) junior-lightweight champion are drawing closer to an end.
This follows after Sitemela suffered a fourth round stoppage loss to Moroccan boxer Mousa Gholam in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates (UAE), on Saturday last week.
“I’m in Ukraine at the moment and will come back on Wednesday. The Sitemela matter is on my committee’s agenda for Monday night. I will give you an answer on Tuesday. The feeling, at the moment, is that the title should be vacated,” WBF president Howard Goldberg said on Thursday.
The 32-year-old Sitemela, who was born in Dordrecht in the Eastern Cape, travelled to the UAE to fight against Gholam after he got permission from the WBF.
Meanwhile, former South African junior-lightweight champion Sitemela won the WBF title after he stopped Botswana boxer Steven Bagwasi in the third round in Gaborone in June last year.
