Adel Amrouche became the firsf Africa Cup of Nations casualty as he was fired as head coach of the Tanzania national team on Friday evening.
Initially, Amrouche from Algeria was banned for eight matches and also fined $10 000 (about R190 000) by the Confederation of African Football (CAF) after he accused Morocco of controlling African football and match officials.
“We wanted to play a World Cup qualifier against Morocco last November in the afternoon, but CAF scheduled the match for the evening. The Morocco Federation is a proven power in the world of African football. Morocco manages African football,” Amrouche said in an interview with Algerian TV before the AFCON tournament started.
Meanwhile, the Moroccan Atlas Lions walloped Tanzania 3-0 in a group stages AFCON tournament match in Ivory Coast this week.
