Egypt qualified for the last-16 of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations finals after they drew 2-2 with Cape Verde at the Félix Houphouët-Boigny Stadium in Abidjan, Ivory Coast, on Monday evening. 

It was a dramatic finish as both sides  scored their second goals in referee’s added time after the Blue Sharks had led 1-0 at half-time through Gilson Tavares’ goal.

Trezeguet equalised for the Pharaohs early in the second half and Mostafa Mohamed gave them the lead in referee’s added time. Bryan Teixeira scored for the Blue Sharks deep in referee’s added time to deny the Egyptians a win. 

Meanwhile, Ghana’s Black Stars drew 2-2 with the Mambas of Mozambique in another match, was played at the Ebimpe Olympic Stadium on Monday evening.

Jordan Ayew put the Ghanaians ahead after he converted a penalty in the 15th minute. The Black Stars were awarded a penalty after Infren Matola had fouled Joseph Paintsil inside the box.

Ayew netted his second goal of the match again from the penalty spot in the 70th minute after Mambas defender Reinildo Isnard Mandavu had handled the ball inside the box.  

Black Stars captain Andre Ayew handled the ball inside the box and Geny Catamo converted the penalty in referee’s added time. The Mambas pressed hard after that and Reinildo beat Black Stars goalkeeper Richard Ofori for an added time equaliser.
