The Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) have set up a clash against Guinea in the quarter-finals of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations tournament, which is currently underway in Ivory Coast.
This followed after the Congolese defeated Egypt’s Pharaohs 8-7 on penalties at the Laurent Pokou Stadium in San Pedro, Ivory Coast, early on Monday morning, South African time.
This encounter was decided on spot kicks after the two sides had played to a 1-1 draw in two hours of football.
The Leopards of the DRC scored first through Meshack Elia Lina’s header from Yoanne Wisa’s cross eight minutes before the half-time break.
And the Pharaohs equalised from the penalty spot just as match referee Abongile Tom was preparing to blow the whistle for half-time. The Pharaohs were awarded a penalty following Dylan Bantubinsika’s foul on Ahmed Hegazy.
