Captain Ronwen Williams saved four penalties as Bafana Bafana beat Cape Verde 2-1 on spot kicks to advance to the semi-finals of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations tournament at the Charles Konan-Banny Stadium in Yamoussoukro, Ivory Coast, early on Sunday morning (South African time).
This encounter was decided on penalties after the two sides had failed to find the back of the net in two hours of football.
As a result of the win over the Blue Sharks, Bafana reached the AFCON semi-finals for the first time in 24 years. And they have now set up a semi-final clash against the Nigerian Super Eagles at Stade de la Paix in Bouake at 19h00 on Wednesday.
