Minister of Sport, Zizi Kodwa, has congratulated newly-crowned world champion Sivenathi ‘Special One’ Nontshinga after the Eastern Cape boxer reclaimed the International Boxing Federation (IBF) junior-flyweight title with a 10th round stoppage win over Mexican opponent Adrian Curiel Dominguez at the Guelaguetza Auditorium in Oaxaca, Mexico, on Saturday morning (South African time).

Nontshinga forced American referee Mark Calo-oy to intervene on behalf of the 25-year-old Dominguez as he avenged last November’s second round stoppage loss to the Mexican.

“Sivenathi ‘Special One’ Nontshinga has displayed true character to regain the IBF world light-flyweight title against Adrian Curiel. Special One is an excellent fighter and a model professional who exemplifies the best of South African boxing. When I spoke to the Special One before the fight, he was confident of regaining the title, saying ”Ndizobuya nayo…, I am ready”. I would like to congratulate Special One for regaining the world title. You continue to raise the country’s flag sky high and have made us all so proud,” Kodwa said.

Meanwhile, the 25-year-old Nontshinga is expected to land at the OR International Airport in Kempton Park at 10h55 on Tuesday.
