Sivenathi ‘Special One’ Nontshinga put up a brave performance on his way to reclaiming the International Boxing Federation (IBF) junior-flyweight title as he stopped Mexican boxer Adrian Curiel Dominguez at the Guelaguetza Auditorium in Oaxaca, Mexico, on Saturday morning (South African time).

It was clear from the first round that Nontshinga went to the Central American country with one thing in mind – reclaiming the IBF title, which Dominguez wrestled from him via a second round stoppage win in Monaco last November.

Even when fight referee Mark Calo-oy from the United States of America deducted a point from Nontshinga in the seventh round, that had no impact as the Eastern Cape boxer upped his work rate and continued to land some powerful blows which wobbled Dominguez.

Fighting in front of his home fans, Dominguez absorbed some punishment from Nontshinga in the eighth round until Calo-oy stopped the fight in the 10th round. The American saved Dominguez from the further punishment.
