Howard Goldberg has reiterated that his organisation, the World Boxing Federation (WBF), had nothing to do with Asemahle Wellem’s fight against Tanzanian boxer Selemani Kidunda, which took place in Dar-Es-Salaam, Tanzania, in the early hours of Saturday morning.
Instead, Goldberg said that if anyone has questions about Wellem’s fight, then that person must approach the World Boxing Foundation (WBF) because it’s the Australia-based organisation, which sanctioned Wellem’s drawn fight against Kidunda.
“I’m irritated because that fight had nothing to do with us as the World Boxing Federation. Whoever has a complaint must take it to Australia where the World Boxing Foundation is based. The World Boxing Foundation is not even taken serious by the Australians. We are global, we are in 45 countries and they have absolutely nothing,” Goldberg said.
“I’m a little bit worried that Wellem might have thought that he was fighting for our title and yet he was not. He was fighting for a Foundation title. I mean any official who works for the Foundation cannot work for us.”
Contacted for comment, Wellem’s manager Siya Zingelwa said: “We knew that we were fighting for a World Boxing Foundation title.”
