Following a week-long training camp in Durban, reigning South African featherweight champion Zolisa Batyi is going to return to East London on Wednesday ahead of his second title defence, which is against Yamkela Phaliso in just over three weeks.

Batyi, who dethroned former champion Jeff Magagane at the Ngoako Ramatlhodi Sports Complex in Seshego, Polokwane, in December 2022, clashes with Phaliso at the Orient Theatre in East London on Sunday, 31 March. Batyi had travelled to Durban together with his trainer Khangelani Jack.

“Batyi and Jack left for a training camp in Durban last week. And they are going to come back to East London on Wednesday,” Batyi’s manager Baba Makala said.

Batyi will go to the Phaliso fight on the back of a draw with Capetonian Abdul-Aziz Kunert at the Bellville campus of the Cape Peninsula University of Technology (CPUT) in August last year. On the other hand, Phaliso stopped Itumeleng Tsholo in the second round at the Whittlesea Multipurpose Hall in Sada last December.
