There’s one change in the Kay B Promotions’ bill as the main bout has changed a bit with South African featherweight champion Zolisa Batyi not fighting against Yamkela Phaliso anymore as he’s going to face a new opponent.

A wrist problem has forced Phaliso to pull out of the fight and Batyi will now come up against Lucky Hobyane, who is rated sixth in the featherweight division. This fight between Batyi, who returns to East London on Wednesday after a week-long camp in Durban, and Hobyane is scheduled for the Orient Theatre on Sunday, 31 March.

“Phaliso has withdrawn from the fight because of a wrist problem and our promoter has managed to secure a new opponent. Batyi is now going to defend the title against Lucky Hobyane,” Batyi’s manager Baba Makala confirmed.

Batyi will be making the second defence of the title he won after he dethroned former champion Jeff Magagane at the Ngoako Ramatlhodi Sports Complex in Seshego, Polokwane, in December 2022. He will go to the Hobyane fight on the back of a draw with Capetonian Abdul-Aziz Kunert at the Bellville campus of the Cape Peninsula University of Technology (CPUT) in August last year.
