Orlando Pirates defeated Kaizer Chiefs for the second time this season as they beat them 3-2 in a DStv Premiership encounter at a packed FNB Stadium in Nasrec, Johannesburg, on Saturday afternoon.
Amakhosi, who were the visiting team, took the lead in the sixth minute when Ashley du Preez beat Pirates goalkeeper Sipho Chaine at near post.
It took the Buccaneers 18 minutes to bring parity to the proceedings after Monnapule Saleng put the ball past Amakhosi goalminder Bruce Bvuma from outside the box.
And former Stellenbosch FC forward Du Preez was not done yet as he restored Amakhosi’s lead following a pass from Pule Mmodi two minutes before the half-time break.
Thabiso Lebitso, who joined the Buccaneers from Chippa United in January, scored his first goal in a Pirates shirt when he equalised with a long range shot in the 57th minute.
With action swinging from this end to the other, Pirates led for the first time in the 68th minute after Saleng had completed his brace in the 56th Soweto derby since the inception of the Premier Soccer League (PSL) in 1996.
