The head trainer at Omega Boxing Gym in the Philippines, Julius Erving Junco, has said that world champion Sivenathi ‘Special One’ Nontshinga must vacate the International Boxing Federation (IBF) junior-flyweight title if he doesn’t want to fight against his boxer Christian Araneta.
Junco said this after the IBF ordered the camps of Nontshinga and Araneta to start negotiations for a fight between the two boxers. The camps have been given until 4 April to come to an agreement.
“We expect the fight to happen. We stay ready all the time. We can fight anytime. It’s either he fights us or go up to 112 pounds (50,80 kilograms),” Junco said.
The 25-year-old Nontshinga outpointed Araneta the first time they met in an IBF junior-flyweight elimination bout at the Boardwalk Hotel and Casino in Gqeberha in April 2021.
On the other hand, the 28-year-old Araneta has won five fights since losing to Nontshinga almost three years ago. The Pinoy boxer stopped four of his last five opponents and his most recent stoppage victory was over his compatriot Arvin Magramo late in January.
