Rey Vargas and Nick Ball fought to a controversial draw during a World Boxing Council (WBC) featherweight title contest at the Kingdom Arena in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, in the early hours of Saturday morning.
After decking Vargas twice – in the eighth and 11th round, it was thought that Ball’s hand was going to be the only one to be lifted after the end of the fight. However, it was never to be as the unbeaten Liverpudlian won in only one score card.
Italian judge Massimo Barrovecchio scored the fight 114-112 in Vargas’ favour, Filipino Rey Danseco had the bout as a draw and Ball was the winner on the score card of Jun Bae Lim from Korea Republic.
