Sabelo Ngebiyana and his manager Immanuel Mutavhatsindi are disappointed as they strongly believe that they were cheated after the Eastern Cape boxer’s fight against Tanzanian Ibrahim Mafia, whose birth name is Ibrahim Mustafa Kodema, was declared a draw in the early hours of Sunday morning.
The World Boxing Council (WBC) Africa bantamweight bout was a draw despite Ngebiyana and Mutavhatsindi believing that he had done enough to win the belt at the Mafia Boxing Arena in Mbezi Msumi, Dar-Es-Salaam in Tanzania. The outcome of Ngebiyana’s fight came just a week after another Eastern Cape boxer Asemahle Wellem felt cheated when he fought against Salemani Kidunda in Tanzania last weekend.
“It’s bad, very bad. These people cheated me. What happened to Wellem happened to me now. I beat the boy in all the rounds,” the Komani-born former South African junior-bantamweight champion said.
Mutavhatsindi concurred with Ngebiyana, saying: “We have been robbed. They did to us what they did to Wellem. The boy was punished by Ngebiyana and never won a single round. They switched off the generator after they saw that their boxer was in trouble. They switched off the generator so that he could recover from the beating he was getting from Ngebiyana.”
