As a grandfather, who is still going strong at the age of 44, Boipatong boxer Bongani ‘Wonderboy’ Mahlangu is scheduled to make a short trip to Botswana for a shootout against Tefo Letshikgwane from Lobatse early next month.

The southpaw from the Vaal, who is the reigning South African junior-featherweight champion, faces Letshikgwane in an African Boxing Union (ABU) junior-featherweight strap at Bond Ngubula’s Bond Boxing Promotions tournament at the Fairground Holdings in Gaborone on Saturday, 6 April.

With a record of 26 victories (14 knockouts) and 10 defeats, Mahlangu, a grandfather by virtue of his boxer son Bheki Maitse being a father to a baby girl, will go to the Letshikgwane fight on the back of a controversial loss to Tanzanian boxer Fadhili Majiha in Dar-Es-Salaam in October last year.

On the other hand, the 33-year-old Letshikgwane, who was born in Tihareseleele in Botswana, has registered four wins in his last five fights. Overall, Letshikgwane has a professional record of eight wins (one knockout) and three losses.
