Johannesburg-based boxing trainer Alan Toweel is chasing current South African junior-featherweight champion Bongani ‘Wonderboy’ Mahlangu and his son Bheki Maitse.

Toweel wants his boxer Vusumuzi Ngcamu to get a crack at Mahlangu’s crown or fight against Maitse in a provincial title contest.

“Vusi is rated number five in the junior-featherweight division. We want to fight  the SA champion Bongani Mahlangu if we can get an opportunity. I believe Vusi can become an SA champion,” Toweel said.

“If we don’t fight for the SA title, we will fight against the champion’s son for the Gauteng title. So, it’s either the father for the SA title or the son for the Gauteng title.”

Ngcamu won three, lost once and drew once in his last five fights. Overall, Ngcamu has a professional record of seven wins (five stoppages), four defeats and three draws.

Maitse is unbeaten having won all his four fights with two of those being stoppages. He stopped Awonke Tini in the third round at Box Camp Booysens, Johannesburg, two weeks ago.

On the othe other hand, Mahlangu last defended his national crown when he stopped Luthando Mbumbulwana in the seventh round in his second defence of the SA title at Vodaworld, Midrand, in September.
