Bongani ‘Wonderboy’ Mahlangu’s trainer-cum-manager Sandile Mahlangu believes that it would have seemed as if they were afraid of Mzuvukile Magwaza had they decided against signing a fight contract to face him.
Mahlangu, who clashes with Botswana national Tefo Letshikgwane at the Fairground Holdings in Gaborone on Saturday next week, on Monday signed a contract to defend his South African junior-featherweight title against Magwaza.
“We have signed a contract to defend our title against Magwaza. It was time for us to sign the contract as it looked like we were running away from Magwaza when he called us out,” Sandile Mahlangu said.
If things go according to plan, Mahlangu will make the third defence of his title at a David Faas Productions tournament in Cape Town on Sunday, 26 May.
Meanwhile, Mahlangu fights against Letshikgwane in an African Boxing Union (ABU) junior-featherweight strap at Bond Ngubula’s Bond Boxing Promotions tournament.
According to Sandile, the Mahlangus are going to leave for Gaborone, Botswana, on Tuesday next week.
