The case between the National Professional Boxing Promoters Association (NPBPA) and Minister of Sport Zizi Kodwa was stood down at the High Court in Pretoria on Tuesday morning.
The matter was stood down following a meeting between NPBPA leaders and Kodwa in Pretoria on Tuesday.
“We concluded a very constructive meeting, what I call a preliminary meeting with promoters. I think we agreed that we’ll meet tomorrow at 9 o’clock. Firstly, we agreed the matter in court now must stand down to allow us to engage,” Kodwa said.
“I think both sides agreed that the matter will stand down. As a matter of the consequence of our engagement, it will come back by a resolution of the court in terms of what we agreed to. Obviously, we will do all this in the interest of boxing because we don’t think all of us can fail to find a settlement, a resolution on the matters in dispute.
“We are concerned about the state of boxing and the matters that are ventilated. Some of them in court, I don’t think they are in the interest of boxing. Both sides can find a way amicably to address some of those disputes.”
Ayanda Matiti, the chaiperson of the NPBPA, said: “The latest development is that the matter has now been stood down in court for some time early next week to give the space to parties if a solution cannot be arrived at during this period. We received that request and we thought it’s important to engage because we did not want to come to court at all cost.”
