Orlando Pirates have reached the semi-finals of the Nedbank Cup after they defeated AmaZulu 4-2 in front of 48 009 fans at the Moses Mabhida Stadium in Durban on Saturday evening. 

The home side took the lead on the hour mark when Hendrick Ekstein slotted home following a failed clearance by Deon Hotto.

The Buccaneers equalised on the stroke of half-time after Patrick Maswanganyi from the penalty spot. Match referee Masixole Bambiso awarded Pirates the penalty after Taariq Fielies had fouled Makhehleni Makhaula inside the box. 

Pirates led for the first time during the match when Kabelo Dlamini beat Usuthu goalminder Veli Mothwa with a stunning free kick in the 58th minute. 

Usuthu didn’t give up as they surged forward in search of an equaliser. Fielies rose high in the 64th minute and headed past Bucs goalie Sipho Chaine from Abbubaker Mobara’s free kick. 

Pirates restored their lead when Makhaula netted off Monnapule Saleng’s headed pass eight minutes before full-time. Maswanganyi from Tembisa in Ekurhuleni completed his brace when he beat Mothwa with a ground shot in referee’s added time to make it 4-2.
