After coming from behind to defeat then provincial champion Luvuyo Mputi in an action-packed bout in March, Chumani ‘AK 47’ Tunzi is now set to clash against former South African titlist Aphiwe ‘Swagger’ Mboyiya.
Tunzi is going to make the first defence of his Eastern Cape junior-welterweight title when he squares up against Mboyiya in East London on Saturday, 31 August.
“Tunzi is going to fight against Aphiwe Mboyiya in August. He will be defending his Eastern Cape title,” Tunzi’s trainer Baba ‘Babes’ Makala said.
Tunzi survived two knock downs and stopped Mputi in the sixth round of what was the best bout of the Kay B Promotions tournament held at the Orient Theatre in East London in March.
Amalinda-based Mboyiya, who is a southpaw, is a former South African featherweight and junior-lightweight champion.
Meanwhile, Luvuyo Sizani from Komani is scheduled to face Vuyani Kosana in a vacant SA light-heavyweight title contest in the same tournament. – Monwabisi Jimlongo
