Having just been a national champion for less than two months, Nkosingiphile Sibisi from KwaZulu-Natal has been ordered by Boxing South Africa (BSA) to make a mandatory defence of the South African flyweight title he won in March.
Sibisi, who has won all his seven fights with two wins coming from stoppages, outpointed Trevor Nghonyama to win the then vacant title in Estcourt.
That Sibisi had been ordered to defend his crown before the end of June was confirmed to Ink Sport by KwaZulu-Natal BSA provincial manager Mike Dube.
Sibisi and Nghonyama fought for the title, which had become vacant after former champion Jackson ‘M3’ Chauke won the International Boxing Organisation (IBO) crown following a win over Quaise Khademi in London, England, towards the end of January this year.
Already, the handlers of number one contender Theo Nxayiphi, who trains at All Winners Boxing Club in Mdantsane, have sent a challenge form to BSA.
Nxayiphi, who has eight wins, three losses and three draws, defeated Lutho Gungutho on points in his last fight held at the Whittlesea Multipurpose Hall, Sada, in December. – Monwabisi Jimlongo
