Amateur star from Mdantsane Amzolele ‘Globe’ Dyeyi’s much-awaited professional debut has been delayed after next week’s tournament got postponed to a later date.

Dyeyi, a silver medallist at the recent 2024 Mandela African Boxing Cup tournament held at the Inkosi Albert Luthuli International Convention (ICC) in Durban, was due to face off against Loyiso Basayi in a bantamweight bout on Friday, 24 May.

However, the Fantastic 2 Boxing Promotions tournament set to be held at the Kibler Park Recreation Centre has since been postponed to a date, which is yet to be confirmed.

“I have no problem with the postponement. I was ready for the fight as I’m always fit. Taking part in the Mandela Cup has helped me maintain my fitness,” the three-time Eastern Cape champion said.

The 22-year-old Dyeyi, formerly trained by Zolile ‘Gqo’ Mahambi in Mdantsane, is now under the tutelage of 2023 Trainer of the Year award winner Khangelani Jack in Gauteng. – Monwabisi Jimlongo
