Plans are still in place to feature former South African champion Azinga ‘Golden Boy’ Fuzile from Duncan Village in East London in one of the tournaments promoted by Golden Gloves.
And Golden Gloves managing director Rodney Berman has revealed that Fuzile, a former SA featherweight champion, will now feature in his promotional outfit’s tournament in three months’ time.
“The problem was that I saw he was suspended something which I didn’t know about. The suspension has now been lifted. I have finalised my August tournament and I’m gonna re-arrange it to accommodate him,” Berman said.
The New York State Athletic Commission (NYSAC) suspended Fuzile following his loss to Japanese boxer Kenichi Ogawa when they fought for the International Boxing Federation (IBF) junior-lightweight title at the Madison Square Garden Theatre in November 2021.
Fuzile, who is trained by former SA flyweight champion Makazole Tete at the All Winners Boxing Club in Mdantsane, beat Tanzanian boxer Emmanuel Amos Stephano at the Whittlesea Multipurpose Hall in Sada last December. – Monwabisi Jimlongo
