Boxing trainer Phumzile ‘Sweet Chocolate’ Matyhila believes that his boxer Sikho ‘Sequence’ Nqothole did enough to win against René Calixto Bibiano from Mexico, but the judges thought otherwise.
The Mexican kept his unbeaten record intact after he outpointed Nqothole from Mthatha at the Gimnasio de Box Jiquipilco in Mexico early on Sunday morning, South African time.
Calixto, who is rated 11th by the World Boxing Association (WBA) and 15th by the World Boxing Organisation (WBO), won the bout by a unanimous decision with two judges giving him a 96-94 victory and he won by 98-92 on the third score card.
“I think we won the fight, but the judges had other ideas. It would have been better if in the process of robbing us had they said it was a draw. I really don’t know. Maybe it’s because our opponent was fighting at home,” Matyhila said.
As a result of the win, the 29-year-old Calixto has won all his 23 fights with nine of those victories coming from stoppages.
On the other hand, Nqothole who is rated 12th by the WBA, eighth on the International Boxing Federation (IBF) ratings and is rated fifth by the WBO, has dropped to 18 wins and three defeats. – Monwabisi Jimlongo
