German-born coach Ernst Middendorp has left relegated Cape Town Spurs after he failed to save the Urban Warriors from relegation this past ssason.
The former Maritzburg United and Kaizer Chiefs mentor’ s departure from the Cape club was announced by the Urban Warriors on Monday morning.
“On behalf of the board and the club, we would like to convey our sincere gratitude to Ernst for his commitment and dedication over the recent months,” Spurs chief executive officer Alexi Efstathiou said.
“The spirited fight that he was able to master in the second phase with our team was nothing short of amazing. Unfortunately, due to the restrictive financial environment of the NFD, the club was unable to extend the relationship.”
Efstathiou added: “There is nothing sinister in the decision as the coach clearly indicated that he was willing to stay on.”
The Urban Warriors finished stone last in the past term after collecting 23 points in 30 matches.
