Winds of change blew at Boxing South Africa (BSA) and long-standing BSA Eastern Cape provincial manager Phakamile Jacobs was swept out of power and consigned to the scrapheap.
And in came former ring official Siya Vabaza-Booi taking over from the controversial Jacobs, who had been in charge for more than two decades. Interestingly, just like Vabaza-Booi, Jacobs was a former ring official when he took over.
Vabaza-Booi’s journey as a ring official came to and end in March after she decided against renewing her licence as a ring official having served the fistic sport in that capacity for more than three decades.
East London-born Vabaza-Booi was at the time a World Boxing Federation (WBF) supervisor in Africa and being a member of the Boxing South Africa (BSA) sanctioning committee.
Vabaza-Booi travelled all over doing duty for the World Boxing Council (WBC), International Boxing Federation (IBF), International Boxing Organisation (IBO) and World Boxing Union (WBU). – Monwabisi Jimlongo
Congratulations Mrs Booi, Jacobs has now come to the end of the road and we are sure that boxing will now return to it’s former glory in this region Well done Viva
