The vastness of the Eastern Cape – from the Gamtoos Valley to Mbizana – won’t be a problem to Siya Vabaza-Booi’s journey as she hopes to execute her duties as Boxing South Africa (BSA) provincial manager with aplomb.

Vabaza-Booi was confirmed to her new position on Monday this week as she replaced Phakamile Jacobs, who had been in charge for more than two decades.

Previously, the Eastern Cape had two managers – one for the Border region and the other in charge of the Eastern Province. Jacobs was in charge of the Border region while former boxer Nceba Dladla, who succeeded the late Mtunzi Mapitiza, looked after the Eastern Province.

“Geographically, I’m best placed. There won’t be any problem in as far as the distance in the province is concerned. The job is going to be done accordingly,” Vabaza-Booi, who’s based in Port Alfred, said.

Already, Vabaza-Booi is in Gauteng where she was an interested observer while provincial manager Hloks Ramagole oversaw the weigh-in ahead of Saturday’s boxing tournament, which is going to be promoted by Golden Gloves at the Emperor’s Palace in Kempton Park. – Monwabisi Jimlongo
