Simangele ‘Smash’ Hadebe didn’t even raise a sweat as she dispatched her opponent Jesca Mfinanga in the first round at the Kibler Park Recreation Centre in Johannesburg on Saturday evening.

And by so doing, Hadebe successfully defended her African Boxing Union (ABU) female flyweight title after she had been inactive for more than a year.

This was the second time that Hadebe successfully defended her crown having beaten Tanzanian Stumai Muki Paulo in August 2022. The reigning SA female flyweight champion won the ABU title after she defeated Halima Vunjabei from Tanzania in February 2022.

Meanwhile, Zimbabwean female boxer Monica Mkandla won the vacant ABU SADC female junior-featherweight title after she stopped Egine Kayange from Tanzania in the fourth round to stretch her unbeaten record to six wins.

On the other hand, debutant Amzolele Dyeyi survived a first round knockdown to defeat Judas Sithole by a technical knockout three rounds later.
