Boxing 5 has secured a deal with DAZN for the streaming of its Saturday, 13 July, tournament scheduled for the Box Camp in Booysens, Johannesburg.

The tournament is headlined by an IBF Continental Africa lightweight clash between Kaine Fourie and Siseko Makeleni.

“We have such amazing talent and I am happy to announce that we have DAZN on board for our UP-RISING show for Boxing 5 Promotions. We are looking to start a great relationship with them,” Boxing 5’s Colin Nathan said.

“Larry (Wainstein) and I have been working hard behind the scenes to get this done. The strategy for Boxing 5 was always to target an international audience with our content (fights). The first step was procuring the right quality of fighters for our business. We have the leading young talent in South Africa and legitimate world-class athletes on our books.”

DAZN, which is the largest sport streaming app available in more than 200 countries, has been eyeing the African continent for some time now.

Meanwhile, this is the same tournament which features exciting talent like Ishmaeel Kadri Junior, Joshua Feldman and Simnikwe Bongco, who’s going to make his professional debut.

South African heavyweight champion Shaun Potgieter will also be involved as well as he faces Malawian Musa Ajibu on an eight rounds bout.

Wainstein, one of Boxing 5’s directors, said about Fourie: “He is star quality and has really looked the part in a fighter that has had fewer than 10 fights.”

On his thoughts after securing a deal with DAZN, Wainstein said: “We wanted to develop the brand (Boxing 5) 14 months ago to a point where we could offer content in the International space. We would like to thank DAZN for being our broadcast partner.”
