Ricardo Malajika will defend his International Boxing Organisation (IBO) junior-bantamweight title against Yanga ‘Showtime’ Sigqibo at the Emperor’s Palace in Kempton Park on Friday, 23 August.

Malajika, who is trained by Manny Fernandes, will be making the second defence of the title he won after he defeated Argentine boxer Kevin Luis Munoz in September last year.

The 25-year-old Malajika put up an impressive performance against Marcel Braithwaite from the United Kingdom just over two months ago.

On the other hand, Sigqibo, a former South African junior-bantamweight champion from Duncan Village in East London, is rated 11th by the IBO and is 12th in the World Boxing Council (WBC) ratings.

Meanwhile, Brandon Thysse will clash with Nkhensahosi Makondo in a vacant South African junior-middleweight title fight in the main supporting bout.

And Chris Thompson will make his debut in the bridgerweight division when he comes up against Alexandru Jur from Romania in an eight rounds bout.
