The South African featherweight title contest between reigning champion Zolisa Batyi and challenger Yamkela Phaliso is going ahead as planned next month.

This followed after Batyi and his handlers finally accepted the purse offered by Kay B Boxing Promotions boss Mzi Booi, who’s going to promote the bout on Saturday, 24 August.

Batyi from Eluxolweni, Nxarhuni, will be making the third defence of the SA title he won after he stopped Jeff Magagane in the second round in Seshego, Polokwane, in December 2022.

Meanwhile, the Batyi-Phaliso clash is not going to be the main bout anymore during the tournament scheduled for the Orient Theatre in East London.

Instead, former SA featherweight titlist and one-time world title contender Azinga ‘Golden Boy’ Fuzile is set to be involved in the main bout against an opponent from either Mexico or the Philippines.

  1. This is bad especially when preparing for a fight. It’s well and good that he’s not hurt but me think he would require some psychological assessment .

  2. This is good news for fight starved East London boxing fans . Touch gloves .
