A revolt against Boxing South Africa (BSA) provincial manager in the Western and Northern Cape Mzoli Tempi is being planned in Cape Town.

Ink Sport can reveal that a number of boxing licensees in the Western Cape are going to meet in Khayelitsha this coming Saturday where Tempi is going to be the topic of discussion.

And it has become clear that some, if not most, of those who called for the meeting want Tempi out of boxing as he’s been accused of giving preferential treatment to certain licensees.

“We’re having a meeting on Saturday. There’s so much we need to talk about as coaches and managers. We are being undermined here in the Western Cape. We are seniors in the sport of boxing, but being talked down to like children. We need to protect the interests of boxers and the integrity of boxing,” Cape Town-based boxing trainer Emil Brice said.

Another licensee, who asked for anonymity, said: “I have heard that people are unhappy with how things are done and want the PM out. Bt I will only be able to know more once I hear the people at the meeting.”

Tempi, who was born in the Buffalo City Metro and has been a Cape Town resident for more than 25 years, was only confirmed last month as provincial manager for both the Western and Northern Cape.

Contacted for comment, Tempi said: “I would rather not comment on this matter.” – Monwabisi Jimlongo
