Sinethemba Blom has his eyes firmly set on Khaya Busakwe’s South African lightweight title as he has lodged a challenge to fight against the Soweto-born champion.
This was disclosed to Ink Sport by the bearded boxer’s manager Lonki Witbooi on Friday afternoon.
“We have lodged a challenge for the SA lightweight title. We are waiting for a response from Busakwe’s camp. We have spoken to Boxing South Africa about the delay in accepting our challenge,” Witbooi said.
Busakwe from Central Western Jabavu, Soweto, has defended his title twice since dethroning Mdantsane-born Lusanda Komanisi in March last year. He outpointed Ayanda Nkosi last June and stopped Shameeg Williams in December.
Contacted for comment, Busakwe’s trainer Norman Hlabane said: “We are not aware of the challenge. Busakwe is the champion and he has to defend his title.”
