With less than a month to go before he squares up against Yanga ‘Showtime’ Sigqibo, Ricardo ‘Magic Man’ Malajika remains fearless as he continues to prepare for his upcoming fight.
Malajika will be attempting to make a second successful defence of his International Boxing Organisation (IBO) junior-bantamweight crown when he faces Sigqibo at the Emperor’s Palace in Kempton Park on Friday, 23 August.
“We are training very hard preparing for this fight. I’m definitely not afraid of him. I’m also not gonna say I underestimate him. The one who’s working hard, that’s me, is gonna win the fight,” Malajika said.
The 25-year-old Malajika, who is trained by Manny Fernandes, dominated Marcel Braithwaite in his title defence at the same Kempton Park venue three months ago.
Meanwhile, this is going to be the first time that Siqgibo, a former South African junior-bantamweight champion from Duncan Village in East London, challenges for the world title. – Monwabisi Jimlongo
