Boxing followers will have to wait a little longer if they want to see a fight between South African champion Siyakholwa Kuse and Malaki Sobolo, which was initially scheduled for this past Sunday and then postponed to next Sunday.

Kuse from Mdantsane was due to make the first defence of the SA minimumweight title he recaptured after he defeated Bangile Nyangani in a rematch at the East London International Convention Centre (ICC), in July last year.

Ink Sport can reveal that the tournament is not going to take place any time soon because no purse monies were deposited into the account of Boxing South Africa (BSA).

“The tournament was cancelled by Boxing SA due non-payment of purses within the stipulated time frame as per the tournament policy,” acting BSA director of operations Mncedisi Ngqumba said.

Clause 5.6 of the tournament policy document signed by former BSA board chairperson Dr Malefetsane Ngatane stipulates that a promoter must deposit purse monies no later than two weeks before a tournament takes place.

Meanwhile, it was in the same tournament that former SA junior-flyweight champion Nhlanhla ‘Mount Kilimanjaro’ Tyirha was going to make a come back against Zimbabwean Ndabezinhle Phiri.

Tyirha from Mdantsane has not fought since he suffered a shock eighth round stoppage loss to Malawian George Kandulo in July last year. – Monwabisi Jimlongo
