With only a week to go before his rematch against Japanese boxer Tomoki Kameda, Lerato ‘Lights Out’ Dlamini from Welkom in the Free State is settling well in Japan after leaving South Africa on Thursday.

Dlamini faces Kameda in an International Boxing Federation (IBF) featherweight elimination bout at the 4 800-seater Yamato Arena in Suita, Osaka, on Saturday next week.

“We had our first training session yesterday (Friday). It’s very hot here. We are settling in nicely,” Dlamini’s manager and trainer Colin ‘Nomakanjani’ Nathan said.

This is the second time that the two boxers fight against each other in less than a year. Dlamini put up a polished performance and defeated Kameda by a split decision in their first meeting last October.

Meanwhile, Boxing 5 Promotions and DAZN have secured the African broadcast rights for this rematch.

“Obviously, it’s another milestone for Boxing 5, reaching new heights in such a short space of time. We are privileged and honoured that they are happy to broadcast another fighter of ours outside of our country. It actually gives the South African boxers drive and motivates them to do well. Partner, Colin Nathan’s input has been invaluable,” Boxing 5 chief executive officer Larry Wainstein said. – Monwabisi Jimlongo
