Four years after he switched from football to boxing, Phikelelani Khumalo will finally get a chance to fight for a continental title as he is scheduled to trade blows with Faustin Busaka next month.
Khumalo, who switched from football to the fistic sport in 2020, fights against Busaka from the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) in a vacant African Boxing Union (ABU) middleweight title contest at The Station Urban Event Space on Saturday, 7 September in Durban.
Trained by his father Mlindelwa in Mhlanga, Khumalo, a former Lamontville Golden Arrows and Maritzburg United Diski Challenge player, is the reigning KwaZulu-Natal junior-middleweight champion.
Meanwhile, KZN champion Ntethelelo Magcaba from Ntshanga faces Andile Mafeka in a vacant ABU junior-bantamweight title contest in the same tournament.
